OK, so here’s my list of how I’d (re)read my Buffy and Angel comics. It needs some explanations though, I’m doing them first in French, then in English.

FRANÇAIS

Donc, voilà ma liste d’ordre de lecture des comics Buffy/Angel post-saison 8 & 5. Elle est personnelle et donc sujette à controverse. Tous les titres sont en anglais car tous les comics n’ont pas (encore) de VF, mais les numéros devraient aider à s’y retrouver.

Les noms des différentes parties (PART.XX) de cette liste sont totalement inventés pour m’aider à m’y retrouver plus rapidement. Une partie représente une très grosse soirée de lecture (5 à 7h).

Une sous-partie est supposée prendre entre 30 et 60 minutes à lire, en anglais, donc pas si vite que ça. L’idée est que ça ressemble à un épisode de série en terme de ressenti. Là aussi, j’ai renommé certains de ces « épisodes » dans lesquels j’ai mélangé plusieurs séries de comics, de manière à ne pas « m’ennuyer » à n’en lire qu’une seule.

Par exemple, j’ai mélangé After the Fall et Fray, parce que ça aide à garder un peu de suspens et le rythme des deux (et aussi et surtout parce qu’AtF est très long à lire et ne se mélange à rien, or j’ai l’habitude de basculer d’une série à l’autre avec Buffy et Angel). Je le fais ensuite parfois avec Buffy & Angel et Faith, parce que j’aime savoir où en sont un peu tous les personnages quand je le peux. Quelques crossovers ont par contre lieu à l’intérieur d’un seul arc, donc il peut y avoir de mini-spoilers « inévitables » dans cet ordre de lecture. Je préfère malgré tout lire par arc plutôt que dans l’ordre exact de la publication (qui découpe les arcs…), à nouveau pour avoir cette impression de regarder un épisode de TV.

Enfin, j’ai zappé pas mal de comics qui se déroulent avant la fin des deux séries (on pourrait les placer dans la part. 00). J’ai par contre ajouté « Into the light » (officiellement au début de la saison 7 de Buffy, mais Spike ressemble plutôt au personnage de la saison 5 d’Angel) à la liste parce qu’un de ses personnages apparaît plus tard dans la série. Certains des comics (surtout les Angel) ne sont pas considérés comme canon, mais ils aident tous à conclure des storylines et aucun d’entre eux n’est contradictoire avec ce qui est dit dans la suite de la série (pour l’instant).

ENGLISH

The names of the different parts (PART. XX) are invented so that I can find what I’m looking for quicker. They basically represent one really big evening of reading comics (5 to 7 hours…).

A subpart is supposed to take between 30’ and 60’ to read (I’m a slowish reader since I’m French), so it’s meant to feel just like an episode. I named myself some of them in which I mixed several regular series so that I won’t be “bored” with only one of them.

 I did mix After the Fall with Fray for example, because it helps keeping the suspense and pace of both stories – and because AtF is really long. I’m sometimes doing it with Buffy & Angel and Faith because I like to keep in touch with all the characters when I can. Some crossovers are happening inside the same story arc, so they may be minor unavoidable spoilers, but I’d prefer to read by story arc instead of reading the exact publishing order, mainly to have the feeling of watching an episode of a TV show.

Finally, I skipped a lot of comics happening before the end of both shows (they’re basically in the Part. 00). I added “Into the light” here because one of its character is coming back later. Some of those comics aren’t plain canon, but they’re all helping concluding storylines and none of them are contradictory with what is being said later (yet?).
